Bog Standard

Ever had the moment of panic when you reach for the loo roll, and find that there
isn't any left?

Bog Standard charts the story of John who comes unstuck in this exact situation. What should be a quick hung-over toilet break at the offices of Salford Haulage and Transport soon turn into a nightmare when John forgets to check in advance for loo roll. Played by Michael Justice, John’s hilarious understanding of toilet etiquette ranges from the unnerving mystery of the warm seat, to respecting the radio silence one must respect when engaged in your business. To make matters worse, John is being hassled over the phone by his girlfriend, heckled by his henpecking boss and harangued by his practical joke loving best friend. And heaven forbid that he may actually hear his boss in the cubicle next door…

Written and Directed by Manchester based film-maker Colin Warhurst (Co Director/Producer of the UK Independent feature film Mancattan) and Produced by Chris Lane, Bog Standard is a 10 minute short film, shot in HD, and filmed on location (in a toilet) in Salford.

Bog Standard guarantees to challenge the assumptions of what a film about Poo should be, favouring awkward comedy over obvious potty humour. A classic English “Comedy of Manners”, in the style of Oscar Wilde or Alan Bennet’s Talking Heads, the film captures one moment in an average man’s life, who, despite an ever building barrage of difficulties, is determined to keep up his beliefs of etiquette in what is one of England’s most taboo areas; the Toilet.

The end result is a film that flushes away any toilet taboos and through the misfortune of our hero John, shows how futile the unwritten rules and codes of conduct for going to the toilet can ultimately be. At the very least, you are guaranteed to always check for loo roll in the future and avoid coming to a sticky end of your own.

A FREE screening of Bog Standard will take place in the toilet of the Dancehouse Theatre every 15 minutes from 7:15-10:45pm, and with only 10 people allowed per screening you will need to reserve your place early to avoid disappointment!

To reserve your ticket please choose a time slot from the list HERE and send us an EMAIL IN ADVANCE to ticketline@bogstandardfilm.com with details of your name, the names of any guests you intend to bring and your chosen time.
