As one of Manchester's premier comedy venues, The Dancehouse has seen many of todays top comics perform here over the years. We take a brief look back at some of the highlights of such acts including Bill Bailey, Ed Byrne, Craig Charles, Simon Day, Rich Hall, Armando Iannucci, Phill Jupitus, Peter Kay, Smug Roberts, John Shuttleworth and Johnny Vegas.

Bill Bailey

Inspirational comedian and brilliant musician, Bill Bailey brought us some wonderful ideas including 'Dr Qui?', the Belgian jazz version of Dr Who and his silly Chas 'n' Dave adaptations.

Ed Byrne

The painfully thin, long haired, chain-smoking comedian was a massive favourite with the audience with his excellent observations on relationships.

Craig Charles

Celebrity scouser from cult sci-fi series 'Red Dwarf' and 'Robot Wars' performed his risqué jokes at the Dancehouse whilst bouncing a football on his head!

Simon Day

A superb character actor from 'The Fast Show'. Simon performed many of his hilarious caricatures here including 'Tommy Cockles', 'Billy Bleach', 'Dave Angel Eco Warrior' and 'Competetive Dad'.

Rich Hall

A superb American act from Montana, always performed cutting edge material. Rich Hall did his famous chocolate bar routine here and introduced us to the Perrier award winning jailbird 'Otis Lee Crenshaw'.

Armando Iannucci

Comedian and co-writer with Steve Coogan of many of the best topical television shows including 'The Day Today', he performed here in a gently informal and chatty style.

Phill Jupitus

Larger than life stand up and television presenter, as seen on 'Never Mind the Buzzcocks'. His song 'Bestiality' brought his Dancehouse show to a rousing finale.

Peter Kay

Another local comedian turned superstar, his 'Pheonix Nights' sitcom is a classic with many of his top sketches pioneered at the Dancehouse including the renowned 'wedding sequence'.

Smug Roberts

The Godfather of Manchester comedy, no two shows were ever the same. He once took the audience on a Metrolink tram from one venue to another. Had the hit single 'Meat pie, sausage roll'.

John Shuttleworth

Amazing character act as seen on his own radio and television shows. Always sold out his appearances at the Dancehouse and is currently taking time off with his wife Mary in Sheffield!

Johnny Vegas

Potter and man of the moment, Johnny Vegas always caused mayhem at his shows with clay flying everywhere and impromptu kareoke sessions. His attempt to rob the bar failed however!
