Ballet

Levels: Beginners, Intermediate, Advanced, Pointe work & Private tuition

Ballet is a great way to unwind at the end of the day and feel good about yourself - and, as it burns 350 calories an hour, it's a brilliant way to keep fit. Don't worry if you're not a big fan of classical ballet music, we use our own fun mix of today's music styles.

Complete beginners

Always had a desire to dance but never had the opportunity - this class is designed just for you. The class starts at the barre where a number of exercises are taught to help improve posture, increase muscle tone, strength and flexibility.

The second half of the class focuses on control and an introduction to basic ballet steps. You will finish with a cool down to relax all the muscles. The class is a basic introduction to ballet and you can work at your own pace.

Beginners

Our beginners class is ideal for students who know the basics of ballet or have some experience in another dance style. You will begin with a warm up, exercises at the barre, more exercises in the centre of the studio and finally a cool down. There isn't a great difference between this and our complete beginners class, but new dance steps are introduced.

Intermediate

Our intermediate class is for students who have attended our beginner classes and feel ready to move on to our advanced class. You will focus on technique, advanced steps and exercises to help build stamina and muscular endurance.

Advanced

The advanced class is for those with previous ballet experience, vocational dance students and professional dancers. The pace of the class is faster than in our other classes and many more exercises are fitted into the hour. New exercises are created each week to ensure you are constantly challenged to try something different.

Pointe work

Pointe work requires strength in the feet and ankles. Students typically progress slowly at first, but you will be able to work at your own pace until you feel happy and confident enough to try new steps.

Please speak to us before buying pointe shoes as there are several factors to take into consideration before going on pointe - shape of feet, strength of the ankles and legs, core strength, posture and technique for example.

Private tuition

Karen is available for private tuition, please contact her directly to discuss your requirements.

Tap dance

Levels: Beginners, Improvers & Advanced

Tap is a fantastic way to improve your rhythm and get fit in a social environment. Karen fuses together many styles including rhythm tap, Broadway tap and hoofing, setting them to an exciting variety of music styles from big band and swing to the latest charts.

Every class starts with a gentle warm-up to loosen the knees and ankles. You'll be taught all the basic steps including shuffles, springs and pickups and build them up into more complex combinations like timesteps. Classes finish with a new tap routine each week so you can put your newly-learned skills to the test.

Beginners

Our beginners tap class is an ideal place to start for those who are new to tap, or dance in general. It's also a great chance for anyone who hasn't danced for some time to dust off their tap shoes and ease themselves back into dancing gently. Tap shoes aren't necessary for your first few lessons, however, the class does get a lot easier once you've invested in a pair.

Improvers / Advanced

A great opportunity for people with experience in tap looking to keep their skills up to date, or for people who've been to our beginner classes and are looking to take their dancing to the next level. The class builds on basic techniques learnt in the beginner class to develop harder and longer combinations. The pace of the class is also increased to keep experienced dancers challenged.

Jazz dance

Levels: Beginners & Advanced

Each jazz class starts with a warm-up to get the heart pumping. This is followed by around thirty-five minutes of simple but challenging exercises focusing on each muscle group in the body. If your aim is to improve muscle tone, core strength, posture and suppleness, this class with provide you with that overall fitness.

Contemporary dance

Levels: Beginners, Improvers & Advanced

While ballet and jazz teach you to pull up, contemporary dance teaches how to release, relax and loosen up the body. These classes are a real chance to let go and express yourself through the sheer joy of dance, inspired by a wide variety of well-loved music.

Beginners

Our beginners class teaches the basics of contemporary dance and you will gain an understanding of the style. Each class begins with a warm up to increase circulation around the body. You will then progress to technical exercises that will improve posture, core strength, suppleness and all round fitness. This is followed by an exciting, new routine that changes every week. We finish with a cool down to relax the body.

Improvers & Advanced

During the improvers and advanced class you will build on skills learnt in the beginners class and learn how to use momentum to dance at a greater speed and with an increased range of movement. Like the beginners class, this class includes a warm-up, technical exercises, a new routine each week and a cool down. The pace is slightly increased to keep the class challenging for everyone.
